One of my pet passions has been the restoration of my WWII era military vehicle called, GMC CCKW 353 2-1/2 ton Cargo Truck. Several versions of this type of vehicle were manufactured for the WWII effort but this model is the most common cargo moving vehicle in military service at the time. Hundreds of these trucks made up the legendary Red Ball Express European supply conveyor, while others made many trips over the "Hump" across the Himalayan Mountains in the Pacific campaign during WWII. I've owned this truck since 1994 and have been restoring and maintaining it ever since. It is 98% stock and runs on the original 6 volt system. I personally performed the mechanical restoration work and enjoyed every minute of it. I am now focusing my efforts on restoring my 1 ton Ben Hur Cargo Trailer. Some enthusiasts refer to these trucks as "duce-n-half" or "6-by", but the period correct name for these trucks was "2-1/2 ton truck" or "Jimmy".
