Jacket, Flying, Type A-2
This page was last updated: February 29, 2012

This is the jacket General MacArthur chose to wear. In 1930 it was approved for issue to pilots. The original specs. called for horsehide. Today we are able to supply military grade horsehide and it's tough as nails. You'll notice the natural creases, folds and surface graining; these are natural conditions and not flaws in the processing of the garment. Details include top entry pockets with snap close flap, knit cuffs and waistbands, brass zipper under front storm flap, snap down collar with hook and eye closure, leather epaulets, underarm grommets for ventilation and an authentic dark brown cotton lining. If you want your jacket true to size order your regular size. If you want a roomier fit, order one size larger. Proudly made in the U.S.A. Available in regular and long sizes. These are currently only available from Cockpit USA in dark seal brown, not russet brown as pictured above.

This jacket was widely used by many units of the Army not just those of the Army Air Forces.  We also offer A-2 jackets with insignia affixed from the Flying Tigers Army Volunteer Group, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment (Easy Company), and 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment.

Sizes indicated in the drop down menu are the only sizes available. This leather jacket is made by Cockpit USA.  Note: Please be advised that this garment is available only as a special order. Easy Company, 506th PIR
Dark Horsehide A2

Nicknamed the Curahees after the Apache word "stand alone" and made famous by the book "Band of Brothers" by Steven Ambrose and its television movie adaptation. Cockpit USA is pleased to offer the finest replica of the original 1941 dark brown American horsehide A-2 jacket with the insignia of 506 PIR. They fought in World War II in Normandy, Holland and held the line at the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944 and captured Hitler's mountain hideout in 1945. After World War II, the 506th became an Air Assault regiment and in Vietnam five troopers from the 506th were awarded the Medal of Honor. In 2004 and 2005 the 506th was deployed to Habbaniya, Iraq and was then redeployed by early 2008 in Operation Enduring Freedom to Afghanistan. The Pair O'Dice insignia which has been displayed on the original 506th A-2's remains a symbol today that cannot be stopped in the cause of freedom. We present it with honor. (Insignia sewn through lining as were originals)
