Historical Reference Websites
In no particular order
- War in California A
website to explain its independence from Mexico and subsequent statehood.
California had a very turbulent history as it became a state of the Union.
Definitely worth reading to understand the California people as Texas was not
the only republic to fight for independence from Mexico. Little of this is
known but General Kearny and Com. Stockton were not fighting Mexicans,
they were fighting Californians in defense of their country. Had
California not become a state, California could have very easily become a British
Commonwealth or Russian outpost.
